Toward a Digital Visual Resources Collection at the University of Notre Dame
As part of the University Libraries' interest in developing an art and architecture digital image library for teaching,
research and study, I led an exploratory phase to better understand the current environment and collections in five academic
areas: Department of Art, Art History & Design, School of Architecture, Snite Museum, Ambrosiana Collection, and the
Program of Liberal Studies.
This first project phase included a survey of five existing slide collections, the users of the collections, and the technology
currently available on campus to support the management of these collections as well as image delivery to the classroom.
On-campus interviews were conducted with the individuals responsible for the collections and with a variety of users. In
all, surveys were sent to 97 individuals and interviews were conducted with 61 individuals.
